Comfortable camp with great views and a team which did everything to make our stay successful - Vuma Hills Tented Camp

This is a great camp in Mikumi - comfortable and spacious bandas, great views from out terrace and the restaurant area and even a pool. The staff were friendly, welcoming and flexible. Food was good and plentiful. Our guide, Fraida, was enthusiastic, fun and knowledgable. Manager, Abdul, went the extra mile to ensure our stay was successful. Mikumi exceeded our expectations, with a fantastic concentration of game (partially due to the late arrival of the rains) and super scenery. Some of our party did the Udzwunga excusions and had a highly enjoyable day out. Asante sana

Would visit again in a heartbeat - Ruaha River Lodge

The camp is placed on the Great Ruaha River and is in an idyllic spot. We saw a variety of birdlife and game all from our banda - a particular highlight being a group of banded mongooses digging for insects right outside, just after we commented that on game drives these creatures always seem to be running in the opposite direction! All the staff at the lodge were very friendly and the food was always tasty and innovative. The camp managers were always very friendly and helped us to plan our days to get the most out of our time there. Our guide Meresu and driver Letus made our game drives a great experience. Meresu's knowledge and spotting skills were incredible and led to some amazing sightings of all things great and small. Would visit again in a heartbeat.

Wonderful immersive bush experience and a home from home - Ruaha River Lodge

Our family (incl 3 adult 'children') had a super stay at Ruaha River Lodge. The staff were professional and created a relaxing environment, so it felt like a 'home from home'. Our guide and driver (Enok and Onesy) were excellent. The bandas are spacious and comfortable, and we loved sitting on the terrace soaking up the passing wildlife and the bush experience. One of our party was not very mobile, following an operation, and we particularly appreciated the flexibility of manager Christiane and her team in ensuring this was not an issue. The food was good and the team even managed to provide a Christmas dinner, complete with decorations. This was one of our favourite lodges for an all-round bush experience. Asante sana.

Total relaxation in a beautiful natural environment - Lazy Lagoon

Lazy Lagoon is the perfect place to relax after a safari. Simple bandas right on the beautiful beach, a lovely open space restaurant area and a nice pool area proved a wonderful combination for recharging batteries. Like the environment, manager Sara is warm and welcoming and made us feel immediately like one of the family The food is good and the staff anxious to please. This was the 3rd Foxes Lodge we stayed in. While each was different, the relaxing and warm welcome was consistent throughout. In addition, our transfers between locations were seamless and easy and the upfront help with planning was excellent. We are already dreaming of a follow up trip. Asante sana.

Wish to have stayed longer - Ruaha River Lodge

A dream came through when I visited Ruaha with a friend in December. The sheer beauty of the park is breathtaking, and the lodge is the most wonderful and welcoming place to be. As it happened, there were no other guests there at the time, so we felt as if we had the whole place for ourselves. The cabanas are lovely, spacious, and fabulously situated overlooking the riverbed, with views to die for. The river at this time had almost completely dried out, but the dry riverbed was as spectacular as anything, revealing the beautiful stony bed and allowing the animals to wander in plain sight. Mr. George, the resident hippo, payed a daily visit. The food was absolutely delicious and varied. Our guide Enok and the driver Onesy were fantastic, as well as our Masai guardians, manager James and the rest of the staff. Perfect service in every way, they even provide complimentary laundry service, a really nice touch. I only wish we could have stayed longer in this magical and remote paradise. Can’t recommend it highly enough.

Never to be forgotten💜 - Mufindi Highlands Lodge

We stayed, after two weeks of Safari, for a full week at the Mufindi Highlands lodges during the last week of October 2022. We ended up here via Elly Siers of Chaka Africa Travel. Combined with volunteering with the Orphans in the Wild Foundation, we had an unforgettable week. Incredible what love we received from all the staff. This cannot be described in words. The food was incredibly deliciously prepared. The creativity of the chef is unparalleled. Everyone at Mufindi Highland lodges understands the art of making guests completely comfortable. We felt so at home that we actually did not miss our own home in the Netherlands. And then you do it very well in our eyes. Thanks again dear people and keep up the good work🙏🏼♥️. Chaka Africa Travel thanks for sharing this place in South Tanzania. Never to be forgotten💜.

Unforgettable Days in the Bush - Vuma Hills Tented Camp

Unique hotel in the middle of the bush, spent an unforgettable 2 days here. Such tasteful, stylishly furnished tents, wonderful. And this unique peace that you have, at night you only hear the sounds of the wilderness, pleasant temperatures for sleeping, during the day you can go into the cooling pool. Staff is very nice, food is delicious.

Great Staff - Vuma Hills Tented Camp

The tents are very comfortable and well designed, spacious with neat stone work in the bathrooms. Staff is exceptional, in the dark they escort you on the trail to your tent due to wild animals around the area. Food is great, especially the menu for breakfast. Game drives in the best type of vehicle, open sides, with a shade roof. 3 rows of seats are tiered for a good view for photography. Guildes are exceptional. I would come here again.

Very good choice - Ruaha River Lodge

Very nice lodge, remarkably located by the river. You always have to move accompanied by a Masai and it's real: elephants near the bungalows day and night, lion passage at nightfall. Very nice room, ditto bathroom. Very smiling staff.

WowWowWow! After 2 years of not having traveled far, I thought it was quite exciting to stay 2 nights in a tent camp. But what a luxury! Truly a glamping +++ A beautifully spacious "tent" with a lovely veranda with seating areas where you can fully enjoy the view. The tent is more than spacious and super clean. A nice shower and separate toilet. The bed is wonderful, very large with a top mattress and equipped with a mosquito net. The staff is more than friendly. The food fine. From here it is a 10-minute drive into the Mikumi National Park where you can spot a beautiful variety of large and small animals. An absolute must to stay here!

Ruaha River Lodge

After a very long drive for us from Udzungwa, we arrived at Ruaha River Lodge. I recommend other people to fly here it's only a 20 minute drive from the airstirp. I had never slept in a Banda before so it was very exciting. After a very friendly welcome we were driven to our accommodation. I opened the door with a combination lock. What a wonderful experience awaited me. A truly beautiful house with thatched roof. The bed nice in the middle with 2 twin beds along the edge. And a nice seat. The open bathroom is very spacious, with a nice open shower and toilet. The windows are fitted with mesh (which you can cover) so you can look outside. The bandas are located on the river. Here you can see animals all day long. Mainly elephants and hippos. From your veranda you can wake up with a nice cup of coffee or tea with a view of the animals in the dry river. The most important thing for me, someone who likes to see animals and loves them very much but doesn't want to sleep with them, this is perfect. Everything was very very clean. The restaurant is great and atmospheric. After the Safari you can enjoy a drink here. And before dinner, enjoy a drink by the campfire. Every evening there is a deliciously varied buffet on the menu. After dinner, the Masai men will take you to your room. The Ruaha National Park is very large. So take into account full days of Safari to spot the most beautiful animals. This stay is definitely recommended.

Rufiji River Camp

What a fantastic camp. A very friendly hostess welcomes you and takes you to the tent. We stayed here for 2 nights. What a beautiful accommodation. The tent is very spacious and equipped with a huge thatched roof. Has 2 outside seating areas overlooking the river. The tent has 2 huge beds with mosquito nets, a bathroom with shower and separate toilet. It's super clean. The restaurant has a great ambiance. The outside seating areas look down on the river with hippos. Every evening there is an extensive buffet. But also the breakfast served at the table is perfect. In the evening you will be brought to your tent by a Masai. All the staff are incredibly friendly and helpful. This location offers a very nice boat safari. In addition to hippos, you can spot crocodiles and many birds here. The Selous National Camp is very large so plan a full day safari to spot the most amazing animals. If you want to relax, this camp also has a lovely swimming pool.

Wonderful hospitality - Ruaha River Lodge

We spent 3 days at Ruaha River Lodge and had a great time on game drives. We saw many elephants right up close. We also had hippos right outside our room. In fact although the river was very low and the weather was drier than usual the animal sightings were superb. Our experience was really special because of our camp host. Christiana was so kind and welcoming dealing with our needs and always doing so with a smile and sharing a giggle. The food was great and at the end of our time we left with heavy hearts. If you can visit you will not regret it.

Africa feeling on the Ruaha River - Ruaha River Lodge

Beautiful, somewhat older lodge on the Ruaha River, which was unfortunately very dry, as was the entire park. Christiane, a German from Frankfurt, and the entire lodge team took care of us lovingly and attentively right from the start. The stone houses, all with a view of the river and a beautiful terrace, are functionally but lovingly furnished. Our guide Enock showed us the animal world of Ruaha intensively on a full-day game drive. It's much quieter and wilder/ more pristine here than, for example, in the Serengeti with a similarly large animal population. The day with Enock as guide and the driver was a lot of fun and we learned a lot. The only suggestion for improvement: extend the times for electricity and thus also WLAN a little more generously. It was difficult to charge the devices, including the camera, in the few hours. Overall, a successful impression of a park that deserves a lot more attention. Many thanks to the entire team around Christiane and also to the Maasai who accompanied us to the rooms at all times. We felt very comfortable.

The perfect honeymoon - Lazy Lagoon Island Lodge

After spending 4 nights in their Ruaha River Camp, we spent the second half of our honeymoon on Foxes Lazy Lagoon Island. Everything was absolutely perfect and every single one of the staff are a complete credit to the company. The manager Sarah - and her dogs Danny and Timmy! - were so welcoming and helpful and nothing ever felt rushed or pressured. Everything completely went above and beyond our expectations and it was 4 days of being....LAZY :)
The island is so relaxing and peaceful, there's so much space that you never feel like you're in the way of anyone - in fact we barely ever saw the other guests!
Isolated away from anywhere busy, the clean and well maintained bandas are private and right on the beach, falling asleep and waking up to the sound of the sea was absolute bliss and their is even the opportunity to have treatments and massages on your balcony from the lovely Esther. (Extra cost but so worth it!)
We got to use the brand new paddle boards and snorkling equipment is always available to explore the rocks and reefs - there are also usually kayaks but unfortunately these were broken/had holes.
One morning we took a trip to the nearby town of Bagamoya which is definitely worth it - extremely interesting and a very historic town, we visited the museum, fish market and art market with local artists selling their crafts and souvenirs. This was all organised amazingly by Sarah with boat transfer and driver arranged the night before for us.
Compliments to all the chefs who prepared our food as it was all so delicious and there was always a great variety, even considering all my requirements. Safe and Witness, our two waiting staff were absolutely excellent, nothing was ever too much.

It was an unforgettable experience and the most memorable holiday we will ever have. The perfect honeymoon we never wanted to leave.

We will definitely be returning to Foxes in the future.

The perfect Honeymoon! - Ruaha River Lodge

The first half of our honeymoon was with Foxes at Ruaha and everything was absolutely perfect. Every single member of staff are a complete credit to the company and the manager Christiana was so welcoming and helpful. Nothing was ever too much. We thoroughly enjoyed all our game drives with Mereso and Ibraham and the timings for the game drives were very flexible as we could choose between full day and split day. There was never any rush or pressure and everything completely went above and beyond our expectations. We saw more animals than we imagined we would - including a pride of lions with cubs as well as a couple of leopards, lots of giraffe, elephants, impala, monkeys and buffalo. Our favourite spot was the hippo and crocodile pool not far from the camp.
The camp is really well located on the bank of the (dry in September) river so there would always be different wildlife just outside - beware the hippos can get noisy at night! :)
The maasai's are all very knowledgeable and kept us safe walking around the camp. We even got to do a walking tour of the camp learning more about the plants/insects and footprints. (Shout out to Julius our favourite Maasai!)
Compliments to the chefs who prepared our food as it was all so delicious and there was always a great variety, even considering all my allergies and requirements.

It was an unforgettable experience and the most memorable holiday we will ever have. The perfect honeymoon!
We will definitely be returning to Foxes in the future.

Most amazing place to relax! - Lazy Lagoon Island Lodge

Lazy Lagoon is the most relaxing place. It is remote, natural and beautiful. The cottages right on the beach are spacious and comfortable. Sounds of the ocean lull you to sleep and awaken you gently. The food is amazing, a good variety and tasty. Staff are friendly and willing. Manager Sarah is warm and obliging and we loved her dogs, Danny and Timmy, who walked with us every afternoon on the beautiful, literally squeaky clean beach! We didn't want to leave and we dream of being back there.

Asante sana Rufiji River Camp-Team

The gentle reader would like to find my review for Vuma Hills Tented Camp by Fox-Safari, but written in English. I would like to thank the Rufiji team for the friendly and helpful service. Here, too, the chef and his staff deserve at least one star for the delicious food from breakfast to dinner. We went on the river safari with Isaak and Ommar. Hippos and crocodiles give a perfect spectacle. To my delight, an ornithology enthusiast also gets his money's worth observing many tropical birds on the shore. Our guides knew them all. Antelopes, wildebeests, buffaloes, giraffes and elephants came to drink. So pure safari with a picnic on the shore. On the land safari in an open SUV with our guide Wasiri, we discovered, among other things, warthosgs, impalas and antelopes, zebras, wildebeests, giraffes and a family of elephants with a baby, which passed us almost scarily. Wasiri answered all of our questions and found a spot for a delicious picnic, from where we could observe many animals in peace. We (grandparents, parents and 2 grandchildren, 11 and 9 years old) found our home for 3 nights in comfortable tents with large bedrooms and living rooms under two large wooden structures with thatched roofs. The bathroom was clean and at the end of the tent. "tutarudi hapa !"

Top Notch - Ruaha River Lodge

Where to start? Our whole experience at Ruaha river lodge was exceptional. We were met at the airstrip by Lyyo the guide and Onesi the driver. Very smooth. On the trip to the lodge (about 1hr) we had close encounters with Giraffes and an elephant! So cool. The Bandas were very comfortable. Christiana and Yustin the managers were very welcoming. The safari drive schedules were pretty flexible. Our guide for the remainder of our stay (3 nights) was Mereso. He was super knowledgeable and very friendly. On our drives we saw everything - Lions, leopards, elephants, buffaloes, hyenas, so many antelope. Just fantastic. The food was great and plentiful. All the service was top notch.

Definitely go, you’ll be so glad you did - Ruaha River Lodge

My family and I had the most amazing holiday ever at Ruaha River Lodge. We had three generations with us and found the Lodge so good about accommodating all ages from kids to older people. The staff were amazing and friendly and the game drives were phenomenal. We felt like they went out of their way to make sure we had an incredible trip and we really did.

The Lodge itself was comfortable and so well located on the river. We saw elephants, hippos, impala, crocodiles just sitting on our porch watching the river. We would love to come back, it was a trip we’ll be talking about for the rest of our lives.

What a Great Experience - Lazy Lagoon Island Lodge

If you are looking for peace & quiet with the sea right at your bungalow this is the place to go. The bungalow was private, spacious and comfortable right on the stunning white beach. Big comfortable bed with full mozzie net, the bathroom was basic but adequate. We were self driving and arrived at the pick-up point early & caught a lift out with the water supply boat which was a different way to arrive - we were met on the beach by Sarah & Staff who made us feel instantly welcome. The food was good. Thanks you to Sarah, Isiah & Sandeli as well as all the rest of the staff who made our stay so memorable.

Great Vista of the Rufiji

Rufiji camp is quite well run. My lovely tent was on a platform with a screen door built in. The surrounding spacious deck is set up to enjoy the view. A comfortable bed with furniture inside along with a en suite bathroom. At mealtime they took good care of me including my special food needs. The staff was hard working and friendly. A magical place to stay - Rufiji River Camp

Rufiji river lodge is an utterly magical place. We couldn’t recommend it highly enough. The lodge offers daily activities, ranging from walks, boat trips and drives - all of which are amazing ways to see the animals. The staff are kind and helpful, and incredibly knowledgable about all of the wildlife. During our three day stay we saw (amongst many others) elephants, giraffes, crocodiles, painted dogs, buffalo, impala, zebra, storks, kingfisher, Goliath heron … and went to sleep to the sound of happy hippos!

The rooms are clean, comfortable and lovely. Every evening you get walked to and from your room by a Masai guard (which is very reassuring given that once a hippo joined us for dinner!). The chef created delicious meals full of fresh fruit and veg, for breakfast, lunch and dinner - catering for vegetarians and meat eaters alike. It was the best food we ate on our trip!

The lodge has the most breath-taking view of the sunset over the river every evening. If you have the opportunity - you must visit!

Great beautiful location and stay - Ruaha River Lodge

Were kindly received with a drink at the reception. Brought the car to our house. Beautiful river view. Dassies on the rocks below us and hippos in the picture. Were not many people. In the evening by campfire when it was safe and we were on time and then at the table. Delicious eaten. For security, Massais walked on the premises. Also accompany us to our house. Also heard lion and hyena at night. Large park. Been 4 nights. Was great. Have to drive deeper into the area. Packed lunch. Had a good driver and guide, William, who was part of our trip. Vuma Hills, a beautiful camp!

The Vuma Hills Tended Camp is beautifully situated on a hillside with a view of Mikumi NP! Because of the journey home, we, the five travelers, could only stay one night. However, we recommend tourists to book several nights! Because of COVID-19 we were the only guests, although the mask requirement was lifted! The tents are big and spacious and everything was very clean. The camp is very quiet and you can sleep very well! The staff was very friendly and attentive. The food was very well cooked and tasted excellent. The bush baby also came to visit, to the delight of the ladies! The manager was also very friendly and attentive. We can highly recommend Vuma Hills, a pearl for nature lovers!

Fantastic lodge on the Ruaha River!

The stay at the Ruaha River Lodge was a nature experience for us five travelers! Because of COVID-19 we were the only guests and we were very well looked after! The end of the mask requirement was finally over! The accommodations were large and spacious, the beds very good for sleeping. The food was excellently cooked and very good. The cook and the staff gave everything, we were very satisfied! The manager also looked after us every day. We were allowed to enjoy four nights in the nature of Ruaha NP. The road from Iringa to the lodge is 125 km long and difficult to drive on. But a longer stay at the lodge makes you forget the hardships of the journey. You could also reach Ruaha Park by light aircraft. The lodge is highly recommended, even at the beginning of February!

'Uniquelly situated on the banks of the Ruaha River'

Uniquely situated on the banks of the Ruaha River, the beautifully decorated and spacious chalets have amazing views of the river and all the wildlife that call the river home.
From the deck of our chalet literally built on the water's edge, we could enjoy the noisy interaction of the hippos, the coming and going of giraffes and antelopes on the opposite bank, the nesting of birds on a tree standing in the middle of the water and the tranquillity of this amazing, magical world
We had never before seen the river so full. It was an incredible sight.
As we have lived in East Africa most of our lives, we knew that during the rains in April, visiting the Park was definitely not the best time, to say the least. The thick vegetation and the abundancy of water would make for poor wildlife sightings, but, it was our only chance of going this year, so we had to go!!
And so it was. The game was few and hard to find but lovely Ruaha River Lodge, the friendly and efficient staff and the mighty Ruaha River made our trip worthwhile.

Excellent service, amazing wildlife
My husband and I stayed at Stanleys for 3 nights in September 2018.Our first safari, and first trip to the continent of Africa. The pick up at the airstrip was seamless; our lunch was in the vehicle and our safari began. With in minutes we saw giraffes, zebra, and Cape buffalo.
Our driver was exceptional, he educated us on the ecosystem of the Mikumi game park.
We were thrilled that the game park was not over populated, often we were alone without another vehicle in sight.
The tent was better then expected, with beautiful views of the plain and a waterhole. All needs were looked after, and the bed reasonably comfortable
Our meals were beyond good! The staff supervised by manager Joesph were lovely and attentive.
Thanks to Joseph for being a gracious host; an asset to this beautiful tented camp!

Tranquil place with great people
I spent two nights at the camp during my recent trip to Mikumi and Ruaha National Parks, and enjoyed ever minute.
Excellent location inside the park on top of the hill gives you magnificent views both from the main deck, and from your own balcony. The tents are well designed using natural materials only, comfortable and fit well with the location and the vibe of the place. I really enjoyed being out there in nature, being removed from all the worries of the world and just savouring every moment. It is very convenient for daily game drives in the park, as you do not need to lose the time on the road each day to reach the gate.
Best of all is the warm hospitality and friendly and professional service - it really makes this place special. And a couple of quite curios bushbabies which come out at dinner time too ( never seen a bushbaby before, by the way). Thank you everyone at Vuma Hills Camp, I wish I could stay longer. If you are looking for an accommodation for Mikumi Park trip, look no further.

The cabins were clean and cosy, one with an open fireplace. All in all, this is a lovely place to come for a relaxing, rural retreat.

A Must See
We are repeat visitors to Lazy Lagoon, and stayed again in September 2020. We keep coming back for the following reasons: Wonderfully secluded location, attentive staff, friendly atmosphere, small guest number capacity and lots of privacy, spacious two-storey bungalows right down to the water at high tide, and easy walks on an empty sandy beach. Amenities are basic, food is basic, no frills, unpretentious, laid-back - just the way we like it! And the most amazing night sky!

A very "wild" experience
My wife and I, and four friends just spent three nights at Fox's Katavi Wildlife Camp. It was great. The camp is tucked in along the side of a great plain, in which a river runs through. Each room and the main dining / congregating area looks out on the plain, which is constantly full of different wildlife. The entire area is just booming with game. The area is massive so you can cover quite a lot of new ground on the game drives. The guides were great. Very knowledgeable and friendly. The camp manager was great, always made sure we were happy and taken care of. The food quality was excellent, and plentiful. The fact that these camps are so open aired places make it a great get away during these times. You are always able to social distance at these camps. Each banda is very private and quite far from each other, and the main areas are large and accommodating to social distancing. The people in the camps were willing to take any measure you'd like them to, in order for you to feel comfortable. We really enjoyed our bandas. They were very clean and comfortable. It made you feel like you were camping but protected from the wilderness. Absolutely fantastic.

Wonderful experience
I and my partner spent two nights and three days in the Rufiji River Camp in late December, 2020. We enjoyed all the activities that the Camp offered - road safari, boat safari, and walking safari very much thanks to the kind and passionate Camp team - Joseph, Edward, Howly, and Isac. Also, every meal in the Camp was amazing, which I have missed so much till now. The tent was spacious, clean, and cozy nestled in trees and bushes where we could enjoy the real nature and from river view. Also, from the balcony of the tent we could see small animals moving around such as Mongooses. I would like to appreciate the Camp team for their smooth management and kind care for us. Hope that we could visit here again.

Unforgettable expereince, loved every minute
I loved my stay at Ruaha River Lodge - spent 3 nights there as part of my Southern Tanzania trip.
It is one of the most beautiful places I have ever visited ( and I spent most of my adult life in Africa and seen a lot of amazing places). The guest bungalows are right on the river bank, so that you can sit on your deck and watch dozens of hippos in the water, or elephants, giraffes and even lions coming to the river ( haven't seen the latter but heard the roar). I wish I had booked an additional day just to do that, my only regret.
The bungalows are well designed and very comfortable, with good natural ventilation. I also loved the evenings around the campfire, where you can talk to the other guests and share your experiences. Or just marvel at the sky bright with starlight, and listen to hippos coming out for grazing. I cannot wait to go back to Ruaha NP, and spend another few unforgettable days at River Lodge.

Geweldig verblijf!
